Meet Atty. King

Elizabeth A. King (Lizzy) is an attorney at Barranco Legal whose practice focuses on workers’ compensation defense. Licensed in both Wisconsin and Michigan, with proficiency in Spanish, she represents employers, insurers, and third-party administrators through all stages of litigation. Lizzy is known for her strong advocacy, practical problem-solving, and ability to efficiently guide matters toward resolution.

Like her colleagues, Lizzy began her legal career in workers’ compensation defense, building a strong foundation in litigation strategy, case evaluation, and client counseling. At Hennessy & Roach, PC, she represented clients across all aspects of workers’ compensation matters, appearing in high-exposure hearings and advising corporate clients on risk and legal strategy. In addition to her workers’ compensation practice, Lizzy has handled a variety of civil matters in fast-paced firm environments, managing diverse caseloads while collaborating directly with clients and opposing counsel to move matters forward efficiently. This broader experience sharpens her ability to balance competing priorities, quickly identify key issues, and develop practical, solution-oriented strategies.

Lizzy also brings a strong client advisory perspective shaped by her work with Rotary International, where she guided individuals through complex estate and planned giving decisions across a multi-state region. Her ability to translate complex legal and financial concepts into clear, actionable guidance continues to inform her approach to client service.

Lizzy earned her Juris Doctor from Marquette University Law School, where she focused on advocacy and dispute resolution. She served as Supervisor of the Mediation Clinic, guiding small-claims disputes to resolution while mentoring students in negotiation and client communication. During law school, she received multiple honors for her work in mediation and appellate advocacy, including Best Mediation Strategy at an international competition in Vienna, Jenkins honorable mention, and a third-place brief award at the Boston NAAC Moot Court Competition. She also served as a student assistant for Appellate Writing and Advocacy and completed over 120 hours of pro bono service, earning induction with honors into the Pro Bono Society.

Throughout law school, Lizzy broadened her experience through work with organizations including Legal Action of Wisconsin, Milwaukee Justice Center, and Milwaukee Volunteer Legal Clinic. She worked on a variety of civil and immigration matters, increasing access to legal services for Spanish-speaking communities while further developing her skills across diverse practice areas.

Lizzy graduated summa cum laude from Western Michigan University with degrees in Spanish and Global & International Studies. The Spanish Department awarded Lizzy with the Presidential Scholar, the university’s highest academic honor, which included an induction into Phi Beta Kappa. While at Western Michigan, she studied abroad in Burgos, Spain, and later returned as a program recruiter. Lizzy also served as a Peer Academic Success Coach, mentoring fellow students and supporting their academic growth.

Outside of work, Lizzy enjoys traveling, reading, and spending time outdoors with her husband, Alex Corcoran, and their rescue dog, Bailey. She is also an enthusiastic explorer of Milwaukee’s food and drink scene, with a reputation among friends and family for finding the city’s best spots—whether carefully planned or serendipitously discovered.
