Meet Atty. Casson

Samuel J. Casson (Sam) is a Wisconsin-licensed attorney with 100% of his practice focused on defending Wisconsin workers’ compensation matters since graduating law school in 2016. He has defended approximately 500 litigated matters from start to conclusion, saving clients millions of dollars in the process through his aggressive, yet practical approach to defending claims.

Much like Attorney Barranco, Sam began his career as an associate attorney at one of the nation’s largest workers’ compensation defense firms. He rose to the level of partner and then became a managing partner of the Milwaukee branch of the firm. He played a crucial role in the development of that office alongside Sue, which grew nearly 400% during his tenure. He has presented on various Wisconsin workers’ compensation topics before the Office of Worker’s Compensation Hearings, Wisconsin Association of Worker’s Compensation Attorneys, and numerous employers/insurers nationwide.

During law school, Sam took a litigation-focused approach. He secured the Best Brief Award at the Widener Corporate Law Moot Court Competition in Delaware on a mergers and acquisitions issue, won the CALI Award for best overall grade in the Civil Pretrial Practice course, and participated in the Jenkins Honors Moot Court Competition. He gained valuable experience during several semester-long internships, including with Judge Lynn Adelman at the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Wisconsin, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), and the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB). He also assisted the In-House Department at American Family Insurance in Madison, Wisconsin, on insurance defense and coverage disputes and worked for two private law firms, where he tackled a wide range of civil matters in personal injury and construction litigation. Sam also assisted defrauded investors pursuing civil remedies under the Wisconsin Organized Crime Control Act (WOCCA) and Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO).

Sam enjoys spending time with his wife Shannon and their two dogs. He has a wide array of hobbies; unlike his legal focus, he is a jack of all trades, but a master of none. Sam enjoys golfing, hiking, kayaking, skiing, lifting weights, exercising (Honolulu Marathon Finisher), and playing guitar and drums. He is an avid sports fan of the Chicago Blackhawks, Bears (a fireable offense in Wisconsin), Cubs, Milwaukee Bucks, Fighting Illini, Marquette Golden Eagles, and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
